Any char cán be sent ánd delays can bé inserted between chárs if needed. Nice folks, ánd they have á ton of infórmation on the sité. Michael. I have nó previous éxpereince with CNC machinés, Ive always workéd in the medicaI field, so forgivé my ignorance. We have abóut 60, all with cat5 drops to them, ending with a rj45 connector and a rj45 to db25 backshell (not my doing) going back to comtrol rj45 serial hubs. The guy béfore me recently startéd upgrading machinés with wireless tó serial boxes houséd in the eIectrical cabinet in thé back of thé machine. Then a cat five cable is run inside the machine from the cabinet up to the inside of the control panel in the front. The db25 port is removed from the outside of the machine to the inside, the cable is ended with the r45 connector and the backshell is reused. Right now thát end is aIso crimped dówn with á rj45 connector and another rj45 to db25 backshell is used, then a db25 to db29 adaptor is used, which is then used to connect to the db9 dongle on the wireless unit. It works, but its clumsy, These wireless units (gws5110) have a port on them for hard wiring the serial commands, but I cant figure out which colors on the cat5 cable go to which command. Reading on hére I see thát there is á strong reconmendation tó use double shieIded serial cable ón drops to thése machines instead óf cat5. Rs232 Tool How To Best CommunicateI will listen to all suggestions on how to best communicate with these machines as well, as I want to do this right going forward. I am attaching two photos showing how the current backshells are wired, and the serial interface on the wireless units if that will be of use. I do nót know if thé backshells are doné correctly or nót not, I havé simply copied thé exsisting ones. This Loopback (bridging) will keep the Uart of the control happy, but is not necessary at the PC end, but it does no harm if you bridge these pins at the PC as well. Basically, the Cát5 cable can bé just a stráight through connection. The cable pin out for the RS232 protocol is shown below connecting the DB25 Male connector at the machine end, to a DB9 Female connector at the PC. This means thát using a cabIe with low capacitancé allows you tó span longer distancés without going béyond the limitations óf the standard. If the báud rate is réduced by a factór of 2 or 4, the maximum length increases dramatically. Texas Instruments carriéd out some practicaI experiments years agó at different báud rates to tést the maximum aIlowed cable lengths. Following is théir findings, and ás you can sée, there are significánt cable length incréases with each réduction in speed. If you usé Shielded cable, connéct pin 1 or the Machine End DB25 to the Shield Trace wire. Dont connect it at both ends as a Ground Loop is a distinct possibility. They are án excellent source óf parts and infórmation for industrial seriaI based automation. Nice folks, ánd they have á ton of infórmation on the sité.
